Group Leader: Say Hwa Tan, Patrick

Dr Tan is an Australian Research Council (ARC) DECRA Fellow with the Queensland Micro
Nanotechnology Centre, Griffith University. He received his BEng and MEng from the
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2008 and 2010 respectively. Subsequently,
he was awarded the prestigious Max Planck Institute postgraduate scholarship where he
received his PhD from the Georg-August- Universität Göttingen and Max Planck Institute for
Dynamics and Self-Organization (MPI-DS), Germany, in 2014. Dr Tan received a number of
national and international awards for his outstanding scientific research and contributions.
The awards includes the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni 2017, Lab on Chip Emerging
Investigator 2016, Griffith University Post-doctoral fellowship 2015 and the Tan Kah Kee
Young Inventor’s Award 2014.

Adrian Teo

Adrian Teo, Ph.D student

Adrian received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Design) in 2012 from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

His main research interest is in the implementation of Surface Acoustic Waves in Microfluidics and the usage of Negative Pressure in Microfluidics.

Hao Zheng

Hao Zheng (Co-supervised), MS student

Hao Zheng received his Bachelors in Engineering degree in School of Aeronautics at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU) in China in 2016. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Engineering degree in School of Aeronautics at NWPU.

His research interest includes the interaction between micro-droplets and electric field, and droplet manipulation.

Jing Dong

Jing Dong (Co-supervised), MS student

Jing Dong completed his B.Eng degree in School of Aeronautics at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU) in China.

His research interest includes the interaction between microdroplets and the electric field, droplet manipulation, and capillary effects in microchannels.

Benjamin Ho, Ph.D

Benjamin received his Bachelors in Biotechnology (Hons) from University of Queensland in 2013. He completed his PhD (2018) in Mechanical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

His research interest includes organ-on-chip and applications of microfluidics in biology.

Qi Sun (Co-supervised)

Qi Sun received his Bachelors in Science degree in School of Life Science at Sichuan University in China in 2014. He completed his M.Phil in Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology at The University of Queensland.

His research interest includes the effect of electrical fields on the growth of E.Coli, microgel formation, and fabrication of tumor spheroids in vitro.

Cheng-Yi Huang received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Nation Central University (NCU) in Taiwan in 2015. He completed his M.Eng degree in School of Mechanical Engineering at NCU in January 2018. He is now serving his national service in Taiwan.

Dr Zhuang Zhi Chong received his PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2015.
